Curry and Cocktails?

Curry and Cocktails?….yes!

Curry is one of the nation’s favourite dishes; the love for curry in Britain is legendary.

Traditionally when thinking of drink that goes with curry larger popes into mind, some may even suggest wine but we say cocktails are now the way forward. After being asks to develop a cocktail menu to complement curry dishes for a birthday party, Mix ‘n’ Twist got very excited and set to work on an innovative curry matching menu.

To complement the spice in curry the cocktails needed to be fruity, refreshing and sweet to cool the taste buds  and match the curry.

-Cucumber & Mint Martini

-Pina Colada

-Watermelon Martini

-Mango Mojito

-Honey Iced Tea

-Pineapple & Cardamom Margarita

The bar was set up as a fresh fruit feast, with juicy and sweet liquid delights for all the guests to enjoy. The cocktails when down a treat and perfectly matched the curry dishes being served...all round excellent night.

Mix 'n' Twist Bartending love a new cocktail challenge, so invite so to enhance your night!

The perfect corporate event

Planning the perfect corporate event

There is a lot of pressure involved when starting to organise a corporate event. Whether it’s a party to bring employees together and help team building, a new product launch or to impress clients and demonstrate the excellence of your company, product or brand is has to be right. Mix ‘n’ Twist offers some tips on setting up and delivering a successful, stress reduced corporate event that will set you apart from the standard.

Start early
Events always take longer than expected to set up, with unexpected hiccups arising costing more time. Start with a list of EVERYTHING. Get all the elements of the event in detail and have a plan B for everything in case something does go wrong. Ensure that venues, entertainers, caterers and bartenders are all booked well in advance. Invite all attendees in good time and send reminders as the event gets closer. The earlier you start the less stress you will encounter.

Tailor the corporate event to your needs
If you’re having a Christmas party or celebrating new premises you will need to focus on different things in comparison to a product launch. Once you have identified the message you want to portray as a business and what results you want to achieve from the event you can move on with a goal in mind whether it’s impressing potential and existing clients or bringing a workforce together to tighten team bonds.

Pick a theme
It’s important to choose a concept for the event. This will give the event a flow and will make it easier for people to pick up and take away your message. The theme should be consistent throughout the event from the food and drink to the decorations to games and prizes all focused around a particular idea. For example Mix ‘n’ Twist recently created a Team GB cocktail to show support for the British athletes in the Olympics and Paralympics.

Provide a unique experience
You do not want to bore your guests so make sure you have provided not just sufficient entertainment and activities but also gone the extra mile so that people will be talking about the event for weeks to come. Competitions are a great way to engage guests; Mix ‘n’ Twist has had great success with “Create Your Own Cocktail” competitions, people love getting behind the bar and shaking their own drinks. Flair bartenders are another excellent way to show off and add extra style and value to the event.

Enjoy the night
Once you have got all your organising and preparation done, when all the guests have arrived and the party is in full swing...go enjoy it! People like to see other people having fun so go mingle, network and maybe even grab a cocktail!

Mix ‘n’ Twist Bartending can provide a unique corporate event package that will deliver an outstanding occasion within your budget.

James Abbott - The original Mix 'n' Twist Bartender

James Abbott - The original Mix 'n' Twist Bartender

Following a move to Leeds for university James very quickly developed a keen interest in bartending.

He soon became a passionate cocktail bartender who loved entertaining town goers with fantastic cocktails and slightly showing off with his flair skills (the art of bottle and bar equipment juggling).

After working in some of Leeds leading cocktail bars for several years he saw people were interested in enjoying cocktails and professional bar service not just in the city centre but anywhere.

So then moving to work as an event bartender (the most fun and rewarding work for a bartender) he saw that private parties and corporate functions would benefit from a premium cocktail entertainment service....and he could offer that!

So he set out to provide a great cocktail entertainment service for parties and events no matter where they may be and Mix ‘n’ Twist Bartending was born.
Bringing to events and parties the art of Mixology and the fun of bartending to produce great cocktails and a spectacular night.

The Mojito

A classic cocktail

The Mojito

The Mojito can be traced back to the 19th century and has now become one of the world’s most popular drink. A favourite of Ernest Hemingway's it is a very refreshing rum based minty cocktail, especially enjoyed in heat of summer.

Recipe

Ingredient
Measure
Rum
50 ml
Fresh Lime
25 ml or 6-8 wedges
Sugar
2 spoons
Mint
6 leaves
Soda
top

Often around 20 ml of sugar syrup (gomme) is used to sweeten the drink instead of granulated; it makes it easier to balance the drink.

There are two general methods when producing a Mojito, muddle and non-muddle

Muddle method
Add to a Collins glass 6-8 lime wedges and sugar then muddle until the lime juice is free. Then add the rum and mint leaves and give a little stir. Then fill to the top of the glass with crushed ice and churn the drink until everything is well mixed. Finally top the glass with soda and garnish with a mint sprig and lime wedge.

Non-muddle method
Add rum, lime juice, sugar, mint and 2 squeezes of lime to a Collins glass. Then fill to the top of the glass with crushed ice and churn the drink until everything is well mixed. Finally top the glass with soda and garnish with a mint sprig and lime wedge.

There are many variations of the Mojito:
  • Fruit Mojito - fresh muddled fruit or fruit flavoured liqueurs added
  • English Mojito - made with gin instead of rum
  • Royal Mojito - top champagne instead of soda
  • Spiced Mojito – made with spiced rum

It’s a great drink to play around with; post if you’ve come across or created any interesting ones.
